Pain on the outside of left foot in front of ankle? - front ankle pain

I had plantar fasciitis in his left foot during the last 2 months and not receiving treatment. A week ago I fell down the stairs, 5 due to the weakness in the foot. Now I have a stabbing pain when I walk a lot in the foot. The pain is on the outside of the foot, ankle, before centered. Podiatrist said it was either broke a bone or a sprain. Any help would be very grateful. Thank you.
